There always seems to be a small crowd congregating outside a sleepy strip-mall on the SW corner of Lawrence and Warden.  I recently parked the car to try and figure out why.  What I found was the best Korean restaurant in the city.  What I found was Makkal Chon

Those who know me know that Gumjatang (Pork Bone Soup) just might happen to be my favourite meal of all time.  I have to tell you, Makkal Chon’s rendition is a thing of beauty.  Ample pieces of fall-off-the-bone pork, in a well spiced broth, with a plethora of banchan (side dishes).  Does it get any better than this?

My wife happens to think so.  And while she isn’t the biggest fan of pork, she managed to get really excited about their chicken cutlet dinner.  Perfectly crispy without a hint of oil, this dish tastes as good as it looks.  Makkal Chon is also well know for their lettuce wraps.  We order ours with a generous serving of BBQ Eel, and love all of the accouterments that help fill out our wraps.  A bottle of Soju to wash everything down, and you’re in business.

If you’re looking for Korean food on the east side of town, this place is a must-try.  The flavour profile they create on their staple dishes easily rivals any Korean restaurant in the city.  It’s the uniqueness of their menu that makes them stand out even further from the crowd.  Dinner at Makkal Chon is definitely going to become a birthday tradition.  Expect a line-up and come hungry.  No reservations; ample parking.
